Ice Age event a success!
Visitors of all ages came to the Creation Discovery Centre for the annual “Ice Age” event. 10 modules were set up to teach about the Ice Age from a biblical point of view.
Participants blew bubbles to make an earth water canopy, chipped away at ice blocks to find “mammoth fossils”, painted sabre tooth tigers in a fire lit cave, and saw many science demonstrations that help those who attend understand how the Ice Age occurred.
How do you get an Ice Age?
In order to have an Ice Age, you must have warm moisture from the oceans combining with cooler air in the atmosphere. During the time of the flood, scripture indicates that it rained 40 days and 40 nights. The rain was due in part by the water canopy (indicated in Genesis 1:6) collapsing to the earth. This created cooler temperatures in the atmosphere.
At the same time, the Bible says the fountains of the deep (oceans) came bursting forth. The fountains would bring hot water and lava to the earth’s surface. The combination of a cooler atmosphere and warmer oceans would create enough moisture to start an ice age.
When the fountains of the deep poured directly into the oceans, it would have raised the oceans average temperature, increasing evaporation. The fountains of the deep bursting forth would also create volcanic eruptions spewing ash in the air which would block out much sunlight, cooling the land.
The result would have snow falling faster than it could melt. This would create an ice age that would last a couple hundred years.
Interestingly, Job lived shortly after the flood. The book of Job is the first place that snow is mentioned in the Bible.
Job 6:16 “when darkened by thawing ice and swollen with melting snow”
After the flood the animals released from the ark rapidly multiplied, and along with humans, migrated across the uninhabited world. To populate the entire world, they had to cross from one continent to another. Since large animals could not swim hundreds of miles at one time, there must have been ice and land bridges. For example Alaska and Siberia were once connected by ice and land bridges.
The mammoth is commonly represented as a beast that roamed the land, braving the cold in search of food. However, mammoths were not designed to live in extremely cold climates. Though it is true they do have fur, this fur was designed for moderate climates not freezing temperatures. Their demise in the ice age, was partly due to their inability to stand the extreme cold that came with fairly sudden change of temperature. Many mammoths are found “frozen” in ice in places like Siberia.
After the flood of Noah, and during the ice age, people began to populate the earth. Because God confused man’s language (a result of man’s disobedience to God), people spread across various lands including the northern religions of the world. A small group of people settled in caves for protection from fierce winds and wild animals. The “cave” people were not backward, ignorant, savages depicted in movies. They were decedents of people who build cities, herded livestock and played musical instruments. Today, many caves still preserve their wall paintings depicting their way of life.
